PGP'S GUIDE TO FINDING WORK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
This guide summarizes practical steps you can take to EXPLORE your career possibilities, GAIN CLARITY about what you want, and LAND AN OPPORTUNITY you're genuinely excited about.
We've studied nearly every best-selling book and program on finding happiness and purpose at work - from Stanford University's Designing Your Life we've enrolled in around the world from Stanford Univeristy The School of Life in London we've worked with over 200 college students and young adults on their career next steps, and we've interviewed countless professionals across industries about how they found work that truly fulfills them. This guide is a summary of what we've found. Please share it with anyone that might find it valuable.

OUR MAIN finding is this: while different authors and programs use different labels, almost all of them recommend the same general process:
CREATE A LIST OF PATHS. EXPLORE THOSE PATHS. FO

Whether you are looking for your purpose on earth, or you just want to find something cool and growthful for your next chapter, this is a simple but powerful framework that works (and which one of those two categories describes you will inform how deep you decide to go into each part of the process).
When it comes to EXPLORING PATHS, we have found the single most effective strategy to be TALKING TO PEOPLE doing the work that interests you, with a genuine desire to LEARN MORE about their experience, not get a job - what we call EXPLORATORY OUTREACH.
And we're not alone. There is now a plethora of articles in leading publications like Forbes about why "networking" is such a powerful strategy in the job process. The only distinction between "traditional networking" and Exploratory Outreach is that Exploratory Outreach is ALL about learning and never explicitly involves asking for a job - although it always leads you to one (or many).

SO WE BREAK DOWN THE PROCESS OF FINDING WORK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AS FOLLOWS:

-
CREATE A LIST OF PATHS that you want to explore - roles, companies, industries, and types of work that interest you.
-
TALK TO PEOPLE with experience on those paths to learn more about them, gain clarity about which ones are right for you, and understand exactly what you need to do to land an opportunity.
-
FOCUS YOUR OUTREACH on the paths that excite you the most, tell your story, be specific, and land an opportunity you're genuinely excited about.

The rest of this guide is going to show you how to do exactly that.
-

You're all in very different places with different priorities, certainties, and goals. Some of you are looking for your purpose on earth, others just want to find a decently-paying marketing job in Chicago.

Some of you might know the industry you want to be in - maybe it's mental health, or ,

In our experience, most of you are somewhere in between - you want to find something that's exciting / enjoyable, that will help you learn / grow, let you use your skils
